Christmas Decoration Question?

Question by Princess N: Christmas Decoration Question?
This Christmas I am going to do something different for my decor. I want to create a ‘snow’ effect in my living room where the tree will be. I am going to thumbtack cotton on my ceiling to look like a blanket of ‘snow’ and then have fake icicles and snow flakes suspended out of the ‘snow’. My question to you all is where can I find and purchase a roll of cotton. You know, like what they have in malls at the bottom of the santa display? I have the patience to pull this off but I don’t have “INDIVIDUAL BEAUTY SUPPLY STORE COTTON BALLS” patience. Thanks guys!!!! Have a great holiday!

You all are THE BEST!!! Women RULE!!! Thanks.

They use batting rolls found in the fabric stores. JoAnn fabrics has it on sale right now, but you can also find it at discounters that have a fabric/sewing department.

Are snowflakes, snowmen, and icicles acceptable for decorating a Hanukkah card?

Question by ǝןqɐʇdǝɔɔɐun ʎןןɐıɔos: Are snowflakes, snowmen, and icicles acceptable for decorating a Hanukkah card?
I am supposed to purchase some supplies for children who want to make their own holiday cards and we don’t wish to leave anyone out, so we’re going to make sure we have Hanukkah decorations as well as the usual Christmas ones. But I can only find menorah stickers and nothing else. I know that Stars of David and dreidels are also associated with the holiday but what else could I add, so that all of the children have an equal variety of items to choose from?
Aye Craven, you’re rotten.

Yes, they’re winter decorations and not only related to Christmas

How do you put tinsel on the tree?

Question by : How do you put tinsel on the tree?
Usually, my the only thing my husband puts on the tree is the star. I typically decorate it while he puts up decorations outside and in higher than I can reach places in the house. This year he finished up just in time to take notice to the way I’ve been putting the tinsel on forever. I wasn’t aware there was any other way than the way my mom used to, by gathering it in neat handfuls of 15-20strands (just roughly eyeing it, not actual counting each strand) straightening them out and making sure they are pretty uniform in length. Then I drape the cluster over a branch, so it looks like dangling icicles and repeat until it looks nice.

My husband actually laughed when he saw me. I guess he was raised that you just kind of grabbed a handful of tinsel and chucked it at the tree, letting it rest where it falls! I have always noticed the tinsel is unevenly scattered all over my MILs tree every year, but assumed that was because of her cats lol. So how do you put the tinsel on the tree? In some sort of neat fashion , or do you take my husbands approach and chuck it on there? Now we’re debating who’s tinsel applying method is more normal lol :-)

What does your Xmas tree look like this year?

Question by : What does your Xmas tree look like this year?
My husband and I put up the tree last night and it looks so pretty :-) . Ours is a 5′ lettuce green (light green) tinsel tree. We used our usual collection of off the wall ornaments, that are mostly shaped like sparkly “food” (my favorites are the hamburger, butternut squash, garlic clove and t-Rex). The lights are color-changing flamingos and we have our neat glass candy canes. O, and LOTS of silver tinsel, the way my mom always draped it so it looks like icicles. I kind of miss our normal tree, which is a 7ft metallic garland tree. But it’s such a pain to get up since we have to rearrange a bunch of junk and anchor it to the ceiling really well.

So what does your tree look like this year? Is it the tree you usually use, or did you use a new one? Did you do more eclectic decorations or traditional?

Good ideas for “arctic” decoration?

Question by : Good ideas for “arctic” decoration?
This is for decirating our part of the hallway in homecoming. We have paper mâché animals like a polar bear and a penguin. We also have glacier ideas and icicle light ideas. Any other ideas??

Best answer:

Answer by A Modest Proposal
Perhaps some more animals as you might find here:

http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/photos/arctic-animals/

You could also look into iceberg decoration. I’d like to suggest some way to include a constant Sun (as a 6-month day or night is a unique feature to the polar regions), but I can’t think of any feasible way to portray that idea with stationary objects.

One hint though: don’t use penguins. Those are Antarctic creatures, not Arctic. Unless you’re just going for polar in general, in which geographical mixing might be warranted.

Maybe you can make one end of the hallway the Arctic, and the other the Antarctic. Then you can have the Sun at one end, and nighttime on the other, and have the animas separated into their respective biomes.

Q&A: How can I soften a very colorful room for holiday decoration?

Question by THE *only* lePineyapple: How can I soften a very colorful room for holiday decoration?
My little sister’s walls are sunset pink and grasshopper green with glittery clouds. Her ceiling is a sleepy blue. She has pink and blue curtains on the green wall that has 3 windows. There is also a bit of clutter with a large kitchen set piled high with cooking toys and childrens’ books.
The lighting in her room is a dim, golden glow caused by her light shades that are yellow with white clouds.
How do I soften all of these “sunset” colors? I want to make her room look like a crisp, white winter wonderland, but so far any decorations just look terribly gaudy and misplaced. Even a simple string of little icicles looks bad.

You could make paper snowflakes, they don’t have to be white they can be any colour but you can stick them across the wall and it will be fun for her to make.

My overall budget is about $ 1000 but my DJ costs 500 alone which is why the decoration budget is so cheap.
